What SHAMISO can and cannot do
No oil transforms hair in a day, and any brand that tells you otherwise is selling you a story. Here is the honest version of what a scalp and hair oil does.
Week 1
Immediate softness on the day you oil, especially at the ends. Some people notice less tightness on a dry scalp straight away.
Weeks 2 to 4
Hair feels more pliable and holds moisture longer after washing. Less crunch from styling products. Detangling gets easier.
Ongoing
This is maintenance. Used regularly, oil keeps a dry scalp comfortable and ends from getting brittle between trims.
What it does
- Conditions the scalp, which helps with the tight, dry feeling many people get between washes.
- Coats and softens the hair shaft, which reduces the rough feel and adds shine.
- Adds slip for detangling and styling, so hair snaps less.
- Seals moisture into damp hair after washing, which is how a good wash day holds.
What it does not do
- It does not regrow hair. Nothing you can buy over the counter does that reliably.
- It does not cure dandruff, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis or any scalp condition. Those need a doctor or pharmacist.
- It does not repair split ends. Once a split runs up the strand, only a trim removes it.
- It does not replace a wash routine, a balanced diet or hydration.
Give it a fair test
Use it at least six times before you decide. Hair is dead fibre: the strand you can see today grew months ago. What oiling improves is how that fibre feels and how well it holds moisture, and that shows up over weeks, not days.
If it is not working for you
Cut back. Most disappointing results with any hair oil come from using too much, too often, or leaving it in on fine hair. If your scalp itches, stings or breaks out, stop using it and speak to a pharmacist. Patch test first if you have sensitive skin or a nut allergy.
Try it properly
One bottle covers roughly six to eight scalp treatments. That is a fair test.
